Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has clearly denied Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s claim about a Rs 500 crore deal. He said no money was ever discussed for the Chief Minister’s post. Amarinder called the allegation false and baseless. He said such claims confuse people. He added that politics should not be reduced to rumours. According to him, this statement hurts democratic trust. The controversy has again shaken Punjab politics.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s statement created strong reactions inside the Congress party. Soon after, the party suspended her from primary membership. The Congress said her words damaged the party’s image. Leaders felt the claim was too serious to ignore. The suspension showed internal pressure. It also exposed deep divisions. Punjab Congress once again appeared divided in public.
Captain Amarinder Singh said he has watched Navjot Singh Sidhu closely for years. He said Sidhu lacked stability and discipline. During Amarinder’s government, Sidhu was given important ministries. Still, Sidhu remained unhappy. Later, he got the Power Department. Even then, he resigned instead of working. Amarinder said many files were left pending.
Amarinder Singh clearly said Sidhu was never fit for the Chief Minister’s role. He rejected the idea of any bargaining. According to him, linking leadership to money is wrong. He said such talk weakens institutions. Amarinder stressed that leadership needs responsibility. He added that false claims damage public faith. The Rs 500 crore narrative was termed imaginary.
After suspension, Navjot Kaur Sidhu softened her stand. She said she and her husband remain loyal to Congress. She praised the Gandhi family publicly. Her message aimed to reduce tension. However, the damage was already done. Many leaders questioned timing. The party crisis refused to fade away.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu blamed Punjab Congress chief Raja Warring. She accused him of sidelining 70 senior leaders. She alleged unfair ticket distribution. According to her, weak candidates were promoted. She also revived old allegations against Warring. Claims of misuse of power were repeated. These charges deepened party discomfort.
This controversy shows Punjab Congress remains unstable. Leaders are speaking against each other openly. Old conflicts are resurfacing again. The party is trying to rebuild itself. But internal fights are slowing recovery. Political observers see tough days ahead. Unity remains Congress’s biggest challenge.
